Everything here is open. Take it, build on it, improve it.

- places.json — all 676 records, full detail
- places.geojson — points only, drops straight into any GIS or map
Both endpoints send Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *, so you can
fetch them directly from a browser app. No key, no rate limit, no signup.
Licence
The dataset is published under the Open Database Licence (ODbL 1.0), because it is derived in part from OpenStreetMap. In short: use it for anything, including commercially; credit the source; and if you publish an improved version of the database, publish it under the same licence.

Where it comes from
- OpenStreetMap — the bulk of the coordinates and addresses
- Wikidata — founding dates, native-script names, Commons photographs
- Community submissions — everything the open sources miss
Photographs are not covered by the ODbL grant above — each carries its own licence, shown on the place page.
Corrections
If a record is wrong, the fastest fix is usually telling us. If it's wrong in OpenStreetMap too, fixing it there helps everyone downstream, and it will flow back here on the next sync.
